Oh dear, I was supposed to post this yesterday to spread it out a little more, but now you'll get two in a row! One today and one tomorrow! Yay! This week I'm featuring Angela Hollingsworth Photography and she is one of the nicest, prettiest girls I know! Seriously, she's amazing. Check out her stuff HERE.

I am a commercial and conceptual photographer. I photograph mostly products, but I also enjoy shooting a variety of subjects. I love using Photoshop to express my ideas. I see Photoshop as a tool, not a crutch. One of my photography professors told me that in today’s world, if you have a vision in your head, you can make it on paper using Photoshop. Many people tell me I have a unique style to my work. Interestingly enough, I have never really noticed it myself; I guess my “style” is just something that comes naturally to me. I am really excited to see where I can go with this form of art. I am heading to LA to do an internship, and then I want to work for an advertising agency. But, no matter where life takes me, I will always be happy knowing that I’m doing what I love.

Can A City Be Designed for Greater Popularity?

Chattanooga, Tennessee is trying to do just that. With the use of a new typeface called Chatype. The goal was to create an identity through a custom typeface that would be used for various visual elements throughout the city.

Pretty sweet idea, do yo think it would make a difference in the city?

Would you like it if your city was branded like this??

Check out this video which is the base of their ideas and how they decided to brand Chattanooga! It seems like a pretty amazing city!

New Skin: What Do You Think?

Notice anything different?? I just changed the face of my blog! It's completely different! Want a refresher? Here's what it used to look like:

The reason for the change is that I wanted my blog to look less like a fun, girly blog and have it look more like a professional, experimental, purely graphic design blog where one could come to learn more about graphic design and to be inspired by the same things that inspire me.

Senioritis....I DEFINITELY have it!! And I kinda like it when it's here because I get all excited for the future and how someday I'll have a career with real money and a real house and a real Yorkie puppy! But then I have to snap back into reality and remember I have TONS of homework to do and responsibilities for the NOW. Do you have any advice to help keep me focused? I need help!

First of all, does anyone know how to get rid of this annoying text on my blog? I have no idea where it's coming from, but it's so frustrating! It jumps around and is sometimes on the bottom of my blog and sometimes near the top. HELP!!

Second of all, today's Color Inspiration might be my most favorite of all! The mint color mixed with the mustard yellows just makes me excited about life! I want to drink mint hot chocolate out of that teacup and sit by my sunny window to read a book. Oh, that would be glorious.

I've decided to start a new daily post for Holga photography (that means I have TWO daily posts! Color Inspirations and Holgas, yeeeuh!)! Exciting, huh?? I want to start off by saying that I'm completely a beginner, but I'm excited for this new adventure because it will push me to be creative.

Here's the cool part: these are REAL Holga photos, from a FILM camera! I know film cameras seem almost extinct in a world where we have a camera at our fingertips with our phones daily...but they DO exist! And here's proof!

That awkward moment when you're deciding which product to choose at the grocery store, and just as you make your decision, the lady next to you snatches up the last one left. LAME! Today I had a seriously ditzy moment. And to explain it, I need to give a little bit of background about the trouble I've had with my iPhones in the last 6 months... It started last summer when I lost my phone on the subway in NYC. Well, at least, that's where I think I lost it. I was at the New York Botanical Gardens with my girlfriends and between there and my transfer to a different subway, I lost my phone. I THINK it was when I pulled out my book to read on the subway, but I'm not sure! So the next day I bought a new iPhone and have had that phone since August. Well, in October, I was SO frustrated about my iPhone camera! It was blurry and scratched up and just looked crappy! So I got the entire back of my camera replaced. After he put on the back, he realized that the new back he put on was previously cracked. So he said I could either keep the entire new back of my phone for free (the camera wasn't cracked, so I was okay with a cracked back if it was for FREE!!)! So, I did so, and my camera has worked much better since then! BUT...for the last month I've had the same blurry problem!! My camera has been more of a crap-era because my photos were all blurry and dream-like! Not okay for someone with an artistic eye!! So I was just saying to Greg the other day that I've GOT to get this figured out and replace the back of my phone again because I was goin crazy! Well guess what I realized today....Since I replaced the back of my phone in October, I've had a tiny circular sticker covering the lens of my iPhone camera to protect it...and THAT is what was making my iPhone photos blurry!!!! Can you believe it? I'm such a ditz!! And now that I've taken it off, my photos are MUCH clearer and my camera lens is virtually perfect! What a glorious day.

And that is my ditzy iPhone story. We all need our ditzy stories to be human, right?

Matt Costa Live

Have you heard? Matt Costa is coming to BYU! Yes, it's true! And I know this for a fact because I was the one to make the posters for the concert! It was a lot of fun to design a more modern advertisement for this, because many of the ads I do for my job tend to be a little cheesy and BYU-like. But check out the fun, creativeness I got to do for this design! If you know Matt Costa, I think it shows off his type of music well! What do you think? And if you're interested in going to the concert, it's this weekend!! So you better get tickets asap! You can get info on the event at their FB page, HERE! So, I had to choose one color for the campaign, but I really love the other colors I created. Take a guess at which color we went with, dare ya!

What did you do this weekend? My weekend consisted of watching a lot of football and a lot of driving throughout our parents houses! We watched the San Francisco game yesterday and it was AMAZING!! A game worth re-watching...especially the 4th quarter! But seriously, I'm not a San Francisco fanatic, per say, but Alex Smith is now my hero! The other thing that happened is I found this jewel of a Color Inspiration. The light slate blue is such a beautiful color for a dress like this bridesmaid is wearing and its complementary colors create rich tones that shine like amber colored glass. I love the delicateness of the colors that bring out a vintage love for lace, silk flowers, pearls and a wedding inside a small chapel.

Today's Color Inspiration inspires creativity and joy. It brings me back to a year and a half ago during my wedding reception. It was the most perfect day in August, it was 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. When I think about that day, it replays in slow-motion. There are sugar sparkles reflecting in the sunlight from the cotton candy machine and shades of red reflecting on the grass from my cherry colored balloons. And the turquoise frames that match this Color Inspiration boldly stand out as an accent under the white tents and twinkle lights. Enjoy the Color Inspiration below! And if you like it, share it!!

Have you heard of Svpply?? It's this BEAUTIFUL website full of awesome products for you to explore and tag! It's kind of like a Pinterest, but this one is more male-gender friendly and has more "design-y" products and less crafty projects, if that makes sense? Well I just created a set of products called "Yellow Love" and it is stuffed full of beautiful products that are all...you guessed it...yellow!! (Which is why I wanted to share Svpply with you...because this Color Inspiration has some beautiful shades of yellow!) Please take a look and my yellow products, they will bring you joy and sunshine; you can see them HERE. I'm still VERY new to Svpply, so if anyone has any suggestions or tips on how to utilize this new site I've stumbled upon, please help!!

On another note. It's been MUCH too long since I've shared a Color Inspiration with you, so here I am breaking that bad habit! Today's Color Inspiration feels kind of like drinking fresh lemonade on a cool summer night. You can taste the tart citrus flavor mixed with your sugar-rimmed glass. The sweetness is icy cool and heightens your senses to your surroundings. You can hear the birds, and hear a light thunder from far away before the rain touches down on the warm cement beneath your bare feet. Today's colors are those citrus yellow tones and cool, thundery peacefulness. Oh man. Now I need to go buy some lemons and extra sugar...

A Little Insight

My teacher is a seahorse whisperer. And he (Brent Barson) is teaching a Motion Graphics class this semester that I'm enrolled in! So he could get to know our class better, he asked us to create an image that answered the following questions:

1. What is your name?
2. What is your major?
3. Where is your hometown?
4. What are your top 3 artists / albums in your iTunes right now?5. What are your top 3 current favorite websites in any category?

And instead of telling you the answers, I thought I would share with you my assignment. I believe that even simple assignments are fun and exciting to make because I love graphic design so much! So from this image, do you feel like you have a little extra insight to who I am?

As promised, here is a posting of how to make a terrarium! I think I'm not the only one who has seen these pop up on Pinterest or blogs lately, right? Here is one link for terrariums that I particularly enjoyed seen on Better Homes and Gardens found HERE. It shows you a great step by step on how a professional does terrariums. I'm a total ammeter, but I'm super happy with how mine turned out! Here are my steps on how to create your own terrarium!

1. Buy your supplies: a few miniature plants (depending on the size of your container[s]), flower seeds, potting mix, pebbles, a spray bottle from Honk's or All-A-Dollar, and your desired glass vase[s]

2. I chose Miracle Gro "Moisture Control" potting mix because it absorbs the extra water in case I over water my plants

3. Add your pebbles to the bottom of your vase

4. Add a little bit of potting mix to your vase

5. Divide up your plants into smaller sections. Hopefully you will have two or three plants in each little pot you buy, separate them so you can add them one at a time in your desired sections

(It's okay if you're messy, just make sure your husband is in the other room when you do this part so it can be cleaned up before he sees the disaster)

6. Add your plants into your vase one at a time. It's gonna look like a jungle, but trust me, it'll look good

7. Try your best to situate each plant so it's vertical, it will be easier on the next step

8. Add extra potting mix into your vase. As you do so, gently press the soil down around the roots of each plant. This will help them adjust to their new environment and stay upright

9. Tame your plants by trimming them down. You don't want it to overcome the vase

10. Water your plants with your new spray bottle filled with water. Watering your gentle, small plants with a spray bottle will be more gentle on your plants than pouring water on them from your faucet

11. Put on your lid (if you have one) and put it in a place where it will get lots of sunlight. Now you shouldn't have to water them again because it will work like its own ecosystem, sweet, huh?!

Since an entire semester has passed us in a whirlwind, I wanted to share a few of the highlights of the last month. I am not proud to admit I have barely posted anything this entire semester! I am happy to say that I graduate in June! So school is almost over! Along with another update, I am now watching Gossip Girl, which is a blast! I have this total love-hate relationship with it because it's awful and wonderful at the same time! Also, Christmas was fantastic! Some of my favorite presents were LiLash eyelash extensions, Jessica Hische's designed books, a new bag and some money! Woohoo! So take a look at the pictures below and you'll have at least a vague idea of what's been happening in the last month, and then maybe I'll be better soon with blogging this next semester!

Excitements for Christmas

It's so close I can almost taste it! But it's also so far away because finals are gonna KILL me! I am pretty stressed out with doing all my homework and preparation for the next few days until school's out....so what am I doing? Blogging! Makes perfect sense, right?? And what do I do when I hit a wall as I'm designing? Waste some more time on Pinterest! But I've been filling one of my pinboards with some of the most wonderful Christmas ideas and I can't wait until I have a moment to do some of them! Logo Evolution

My blog has been neglected this semester. I really love to blog and post new ideas, but with all the other things on my plate, I haven't made the time! I guess with 20 hours of work a week and 18 credit hours I'm pretty busy... But I wanted to show you at least one thing I've worked on this semester!

I have been rebranding a park all semester in San Diego called Balboa Park. It's been a long process, and my proudest portion of the new brand I've created is the logo! I wanted to share with you all the progression I went through to get my final logo. Please take a look and tell me what you think! I'll really appreciate it!

Herbs in a Jar

There have been a lot of terrariums popping up in DIY crafts in the last week or two (I'm making one tonight!!) and they are beautiful! But I was thinking today, why not make a terrarium that is USEFUL, A.K.A., one that has herbs in them? Because then you can trim the herbs as you use them and you'll have fresh herbs in your kitchen all the time. Benefits: beautiful terrarium, greenery in the home, greenery when outside is dead and wintery, and delicious/fresh herbs whenever you want! Are you with me here? It's brilliant, right? I couldn't find herbs already sprouted, so I started with seeds. As soon as they start to grow I'll post some more pics! But if you want to make your own Herb Terrarium, follow the steps below!

1. Buy Moisture Control Potting Mix (in case you over-water your little plants--found at Home Depot), small pebbles (Home Depot), seeds of your favorite spices, jars with chalk ovals on them (my friend bought me some for my birthday, but I know you can buy chalk-paper to cut your own ovals and glue them to your own jars)

2. Add pebbles to the bottom of your jars. These are to soak up the extra water and are also for the roots of your plants to grab onto

2. Add your top soil. I added about 1 cup to mine

(I thought these dirt circles were really beautiful for some reason)

3. Make sure to read the instructions for your little seeds, mine needed to be planted at a 1/4 inch depth. I decided to plant two different-looking plants in each jar. I wouldn't do more than two plants per jar because it will get crowded

4. Write which plants are on which side so you don't forget! Water your plants with a spray bottle full of water as to be gentle with your topsoil and seeds. I put the lid back on mine, and now my little terrarium should water itself! Just double check the first few days if you need to add more water to yours, just in case

Chicken, bacon, tomato, avacado ranch pizza.

So extremely good! I found the recipe on Pinterest the other day and my husband practically begged me to make it once he found out there was bacon on it! And to be completely honest, I actually added the bacon to the recipe by myself! I also added avocado (cuz we had one in our fridge about to go bad) and also used a little bit of parmesan instead of cheddar cheese. Behind the Scenes

Now that I've said 'behind the scenes,' I'm feeling a little unfulfilled because I never got to say "ACTION!" on the set....but that wouldn't have worked anyway because it was a photoshoot! So instead of yelling behind the scenes, I was the art director of a photoshoot last night. I got to help direct the models, help choose the 'perfect shot' from each person and help with a few props! The entire experience was spectacular! We had 30 models and shot all of them in 2 hours (record timing)!!! Our photographer, Nathalie, was spectacular, extremely professional, fun, and took stunning photos all night! It was such a wonderful experience! Check out some shots from my lovely iPhone. Letterpress Basics

I have the awesome opportunity this semester to be in a letterpress class! It's amazing! And my second poster was a 2-color poster and then I also splashed some ink on the page before the second color. Our assignment was to give advice or a quote to help people "Stay Classy." So my advice was a reminder for men to stay classy on a date. You can read the poster in the last 5 seconds of the video to see what the entire poster says. If you like it, pass it on!

I Create Wedding Flowers

I have a small business on the side of being a wedding florist!! It is amazingly fun, but I'm just so busy with school and work that I can't do very many weddings during the school year! But I did a wedding this weekend and it was so wonderful! I miss wedding flowers!! I didn't do a wedding all summer because I was on my internship in NYC, so this is the first wedding I've done since I've been back! The bride had green cymbidium orchids, pink roses, pink alstroemeria, and stephanotis (the white flowers) and it turned out so amazing! I loved her light pink and green wedding colors and I was just so delighted at the outcome with it! Creating wedding flowers is the best job you can do...it's just a very time-consuming job (which is why I can't do as many weddings as I'd like to do.) I put together a short video of the process of making these flowers today at home, check it out below!

Color Inspiration #051

Ole, ole, OLE!! I had a little housewarming party last night (thank you to those who came)! It was a ton of fun to catch up with some people I haven't seen in awhile! And although it wasn't a Mexican fiesta like my Color Inspiration is, it was still a lovely get together! And that's what these colors would describe to me: a lovely get together. We're officially into fall, but the leaves haven't started changing yet so it doesn't FEEL like fall. And it's after summertime, but it's still warm! So these colors are the perfect combo of the fall season and the summertime weather. It's honestly perfectly lovely weather right now and I feel the breath of fresh air from my housewarming party last night is exactly what these colors reflect. Mona Lake Gloriousness

A few weeks ago I was almost eaten alive...by mosquitos. It was VERY bad!! Don't ever assume that because it's a beautiful day, you should sleep outside your tent if you are by a swampy lake, because you too will be eaten alive by mosquitos! But despite the bug bites, we had a glorious time at Mona Lake! I think it has a real name and it's called something else, but that's what most people know it as--Mona Lake. Since it's only 45 minutes away, it was the perfect escape right before classes started! I should have had these up sooner, but please accept them and enjoy them now! And don't forget to scroll to the bottom and watch the 40 second video of Greg's backflip! It is the first ever iMovie I've ever made and I'm quite proud!

Is this not one of the prettiest places in Utah?! Ah!

Asparagus

This week has been the color of asparagus. In a good way. Don't think of asparagus as a smelly, crunchy vegetable, or what it does to our bodies when we...ya know...go to the bathroom, hahaha, TMI? Sorry. But think of the actual color: calm, beautiful, peaceful, asparagus green. That's the color that has described this last week for me, and it has been quite wonderful! I feel like things have all been falling together really well! I'm a little worried this may be the calm before the storm, but for now, it's a wonderful feeling! I am getting all (well...most) of my homework done, I'm making dinner every night for Greggers and I, I'm figuring out how to finish the decorating of my new basement apartment and still getting plenty of sleep!! How is this all happening? Last year around this time was wonderful, but really chaotic! I was figuring out the BFA at BYU, figuring out being a newlywed, figuring out which toothpaste I like verses Greg's toothpaste and everything else that was new a year ago! Not that I have everything figured out now, but I have them figured out more than I did a year ago! And life is asparagus green. Enjoy my Etsy find for this week!

Foxy Lady

The title of this post is actually supposed to be read, "Fox-ay Lad-ay"! Doesn't that bring a better tone to this post?? And wanna know why that's the title of this post? It's because I am a foxy lady! My husband told me so, so it's true! And I think that every woman should think that they're a foxy lady! Because it's true! I haven't been around on my blog for the last while, I've been through a lot of changes in the last month! It's notable how much has been accomplished, so I have compiled a list for you here:

-moved back from NYC
-put a deposit down on a basement apartment with full-sized windows
-moved into our apartment
-unpacked our boxes
-started working at my same job again
-started school
-figured out all the classes I'm taking
-started making dinner for Gregster and myself
-went boating, twice, with my family
-paid for tuition
-blew out my tire on the freeway
-paid for new tires
-started watching Gray's Anatomy to distract me
-bought a new IKEA loveseat from Craigslist for $50
-got a grill (this is on the top of my list although we have yet to try it out)
-painted our bedroom in fantastic, beautiful gray stripes
-organized a studio space in my new apartment
-stayed on top of my homework

But you know how sometimes when you feel like you've accomplished SO MUCH and then when you think back on all the hard work and projects that you worked on and recount them to someone else, it never seems like you did as much when you say it out loud? I felt like that today when I was bragging that I got my homework done to a friend. The funny thing is, is that this was a unique task for me to complete. I normally float on by by doing my projects the moment they are due because I forgot, or I took on too much for the semester. You'd think by now I'd realize how much I can handle in one semester, huh? You'd also think that I knew how to be a student by now too, since it IS my 5th year here now. I am not ashamed either, because I have accomplished a LOT here at BYU! And although I could go back and recount all of the wonderful things I've completed over my last 4 full years in Provo at college, I know that it wouldn't sound as amazing as it sounds in my head. So let me just say that I've done a lot and learned a lot over the last 4 years. I don't think I've learned how much I can handle in a semester though, because I'm still taking 18 credits and 20 hours of work a week. But THIS YEAR, I'm 90% positive I can handle it. I'm more mature than ever and more driven and motivated because I love my classes this semester! And let me just end this ramble of thoughts with huge bragging rights to say that I have the best major ever. No battle. I will esssplain later.

Color Inspiration #050

I know it's been awhile, but I'm back with color inspirations! If you like my color inspirations, please let me know! I don't want to be posting these for no one! Today's Color Inspiration is a gentle breath of sunshine. It is the color of fresh peaches plucked from your mom's tree in your side yard. It's the smell of clean sheets dried on a line outside. It's the smell of cleaning your windows and lemonade on a Saturday afternoon. This is what that color smells like to me, and that may sound crazy, but I can almost smell these fragrances jumping right out at me and sending me into a rush of beautiful, peaceful memories. I Can't Believe I Stayed Here

Remember in the last post how I said I would post pictures of the home I stayed in? Well here it is!! The house isn't HUGE if you compare it to some Utah homes, but to have this large of a house in New York, and the Hamptons, and to have it's own BAY in the backyard is pretty amazing!! Check it out below!!

This is the front of the house! There's more house to the left a little but it was all covered by trees!

The left is their backyard! They have a beautiful, huge deck and lots of grass! Then those tall plants have a skinny opening to a dock on a bay! We got to paddle boat (where you stand up on a big surf board and paddle) and kaiak, too! The photo on the right is the back view of half of the house. (Click to enlarge.)

This is the summer beach house, no big deal! It is right next to their own swimming pool and hot tub!

This is part of the living room and it was beautiful! The whole house is decorated in a nautical theme with a ceiling fan made out of sails, and miniature boats all around. Awesome!

The Hamptons. My last weekend in New York, I visited my friend's house who was a nanny and she showed us all around the Hamptons! It was surreal and gorgeous and everything I thought the Hamptons would be!!! It was a complete and total relaxing weekend which was a fabulous wind-down from the craziness from New York! We went to East Hampton to visit the beach there and it was GORGEOUS! I've never been to an East Coast beach and it was so stunning! I Lost My Phone

Lame, I know!! I was not very happy with myself when I lost it!! I lost my adorable phone case and my month pass to the subway systems! Bummer!! Luckily I had insurance on my phone!! You still have to pay money to get your new phone (170 bones!) but it's a lot cheaper than $400!! I found a really cute case for my new phone on Etsy at a store called Adimaa! All their stuff was really awesome! Here is the phone case I bought!! What do you think?!

Joy Burger. I'm so sad I didn't find this place sooner!! It is the BEST burger I've had in New York for these last 10 weeks, and I've had some pretty good burgers! But this one definitely surpasses them all! It has a vintage, 70's style interior with awesome leather chairs and a bar. There's one of those green felt board signs. You choose how well done you'd like your burger. I like that a lot. You get a big, long sliced pickle as your side. And their fries are skinny-homestyle cut. The best part is that they have 8 different sauces to choose from for your burger. My friend got pesto! I got BBQ and garlic-mayo! You get cheese options, too and can choose from American, cheddar, swiss, and feta cheese! It's a place to satisfy your specific burger desires with its many selections! And it's so cute! I also got some really delicious gelato/ice cream from Rocco's after dinner. YUM!

New York Public Library. It was stunning! So iconic with the front steps leading up, and the pillars and the architectural details and the lions! All of these from the outside because, alas, they closed the library right as I got there! There, I said it, that's my confession! I didn't actually go IN the library, but I WILL very soon! I've taken-in the outside and soon I'll take-in the inside, see? I'm just doing it as a 2 parter! But the outside seriously was so wonderful! I sat on the steps and read for a little bit because it felt nostalgic to do so. And I'm really sucked into my book right now! It's the last in the Mortal Instruments series! Totally vampire-y book (2nd confession in this post), but seriously so wonderful!! I love a book I can escape into and this is the perfect one to do it in! Library, I won't disappoint you! I will be back!!!

Columbia University. WOW, such a wonderful campus! I didn't realize why people made a big deal about visiting Columbia until I came here, because, WOW! I've never visited a campus that made me feel so scholarly and important. There's a definite richness to this campus, and you can feel the history vibrating through you as you walk on the brick-laid sidewalks and under the large, wise trees. There were details from my latest Design and Architecture screaming out at me that I won't bore you with, but I was so pleased to recognize these details (even if I didn't remember EVERY name)! I thoroughly enjoyed walking on this campus and I recommend coming here!!

Stuck on an Elevator

No really! On Monday, I was literally stuck on an elevator! The one at my work and, poor thing, it's had it's share of troubles...jk, poor ME!! But it wasn't so awful as the movie Devil (I never saw that, did anyone else??)! BUT, does anyone remember THIS SCENE from one of my all-time favorite movies...You've Got Mail!! Check it out, it's short. The people on the elevator all have these realizations about their lives and how they'd like to change! And I realized, there are a bunch of things about my life I would like to change, too! THIS CLIP has helped me to see the BIG PICTURE! And although I still don't have it all figured out, I think I'll be making a few changes soon...

Oh yeah...I'm at an internship! THAT's why I'm in NYC! Sometimes I almost forget because I'm having so much fun in the city! I go every week day but I haven't shown anything that I've done since I've been here! One company that my internship, Modern IDENTITY, has worked with is SSP. In their words, here's what it is:

Color Inspiration #049

I think we found a house! YES! We aren't going to be homeless anymore after tomorrow (cross your fingers for us until it's official!). We aren't buying a house, we are just renting one, but it's PERFECT for us! It's an Arts and Crafts style house with a covered porch in the front of the house and we would be renting the whole main floor! It's TONS bigger than our last place in every way and we even have a small back yard and a medium-sized front yard! Um, can you say BBQ?! (...except I guess we need a grill first...) I can't say enough good things about this place, but I'll hold my tongue until we have it for sure! (Speaking of tongue. It's SUCH a weird word to spell. It's got that funky "u" out of the blue. Who decided how to spell that word?) But what better image to have for today's Color Inspiration than this one of a shabby summertime BBQ?! These colors of vintage bottles and flowers just send me into a memory-whirl of houses with yards, the smell of grass and dirt, holding hands with a loved one, and playing with nieces and nephews. Can you just feel that emanating from this color scheme?! It's screaming "Summertime BBQ!!" at me right now! The rich, bright colors have such an exciting feeling radiating through the full sunlight that just makes the colors seem even brighter, and I can feel the sun on my own skin as I think about it more. I guess I'll just have to succumb to it's shouts and have one as soon as I get back from NYC!

DAY #9

-Be sure to visit their beautiful, OLD, cemetery

-Ground Zero Preview Museum (open until September 11^th when the REAL museum opens up!)

Baby Time

NO not for us!! But for one of my freshman roommates, Kara!! Yes, she's pregnant! Oh MY!! Her and her husband are expecting their FIRST!! Woot woot! She was the first of us roomies to be married and now is the having a child! (Surprisingly, I’m the only other one of the 12 of us who are married!!) The bad news about it all is that I can’t be at her baby shower…LAME!! So I offered to design her baby shower invite and this is how it turned out! I can’t take all the credit, though, she had the idea! It is a fun, simple way of showing all the cute things that come with a child, like the toys, the cute stroller, the baby supplies like bottles and binkies, and everything made for a baby is adorable!! I think the colors really helped to show that Kara’s having a girl and that she’s excited to start motherhood!

For the color scheme, I used some beautiful colors inspired from both Color Inspiration #003 and Color Inspiration #038. I love being able to use my Color Inspirations to get ideas for color in my projects! (I used them on a recent project I completed and I’ll be posting about it soon! It’s actually a really fantastic opportunity I have to spread the love to all of you.) I hope you like the colors too!!

Reason Why I LOVE NYC #58

4th of July. I know they have this everywhere in the states, but here, it's different!! How was your 4^th? What did you do? I didn’t get to throw a party, sadly. I really love bbq’s and beautiful red white extravagance, like these photos:

But I DID get to see a fabulous fireworks show! It was the Statue of Liberty’s 125^th anniversary! They shot off 5 different firework shows simultaneously off of the Hudson River! It was fabulous! I totally loved it! There is something magical about fireworks. “The bombs bursting in air” as they’re called in our anthem, are so delightful! I’m going to miss Pioneer day this year while in NY because in Utah, I usually I get 2 sets of firework shows! That’s one reason why Utah is the best because we get 2 4^th of Julys!! How can you not love fire blasting into the air in different colors, some are sparkly, some are LOUD, and just…magical!

Jim Gaffigan. Have you ever heard of Jim Gaffigan? Well you are in for an AMAZING laugh once you listen to him! Let me introduce you, You, meet Jim Gaffigan, Jim Gaffigan, meet You! There. You’ve been formally introduced. Now will you please listen to what he has to say? Please watch Hot Pockets. And the you can watch Bacon. These are my FAVORITES of his skits. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you! He’s a comedian! And an amazing one at that! He’s soo hilarious, and clean, and so witty! I love his random banter that he mutters under his breath sometimes. SO great! I had the opportunity to meet him…in a crowd of hundreds of other people too. He didn’t exactly shake my hand, but I’m pretty sure he would have if the lighting was better on the audience and he saw how happy I was to see him up on stage! Color Inspiration #048

Remember yesterday when I was raving about how ugly things like big ol’ garbage trucks look really beautiful? (THIS post) Well, oddly, unplanned, but kind of planned in the grand scheme of things…

I guess you could say that I believe in fate, in a way! I believe that everyone and everything has its purpose. Of course, maybe something like stepping in gum isn’t fate… But what if it made you late, so you got on a different bus, and the bus you got on happened to be the bus where you sat next to your future boss you’ve never met!! See? Okay, maybe not? I promise I’m not a crazy, because I believe that there are some things that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but it’s quite possible that our lives and the things we do with them are much more connected than we may ever realize!

So it’s a little ironic (…ironic...speaking of this word…EVERY time I say that word in front of Greg, he responds, “Don’tcha think?” Then he wails out THIS song! (that link's video is totally weird!) It happens all the time! Yet it never gets old! Oh Gregory, I miss him and love him.)

ANYWAY, so it’s a little ironic that yesterday I posted about ugly things being pretty because that’s what this photo is! It’s an ugly old crate with yellow-poopy-greenish coloring, yet, when you have the other blends of color next to it, it looks wonderful! It’s fresh, old antique, and oddly calming. I think this effect happens because of the neutrals that surround this poop color, also, the olive green really helps to even out the yellow tones of its neighbor. Love the relationships of color when they are next to each other! Love my Gregs. Love poopy yellow when it looks like this:

Central Park. Yes, I'm aware this has already been a reason why I love NYC, but I can't help it!! It's wonderful in every way! Seriously! Last time I went running....which was more than just a couple of days ago....(shoot, after that confession, now I really REALLY need to go tomorrow...I WILL! Done. I'm going running in the morning.)...I found these beautiful little details about the park! My favorite thing about these is that the lighting is so perfect at this time in the morning! So something as beautiful as a fountain, or simple details on the concrete fences, and even the mundane of a curb can all look SO wonderful! Do I stand alone in this?? I hope not, because the lighting is just, just... *insert Italian smooch sound as you kiss the tips of your fingers and throw it up into the air* MUAH!! Love the lighting, love NYC, LOVE Central Park!

Reasons Why I Love NYC: #054

39 Steps by Alfred Hitchcock. Have you had the chance of seeing this movie? It was old, charming, and in black and white, so what’s not to like? The most spectacular part about seeing this movie, and the reason why it’s one of the reason’s why I love NYC is because I saw it outside in a park! Bryant Park Movies happen every Monday during the summers, fun, huh? I got there shortly after the gates opened to the public, and it was already packed!! People line up hours before the gates open so they can get a prime spot on the grass! So I got there around 6, and was lucky enough to squeeze my blanket between some very nice people, and not anyone smelly, swearing, or smoking, phew! I was amazed at how packed this place was, though, and through the pictures you’ll sort of be able to tell! But even though it was packed, just the ambiance of being out on the grass on a blanket with my graphic design friends, feeling the breeze, and being surrounded by huge skyscrapers was such a wonderful experience! It was well worth it to be there for 4 ½ hours, I honestly had a great time! If you’re ever in NY for a Monday evening and you have the time to spare, come watch a classic flick! Color Inspiration #047

Did I mention I LOVE color? Because it’s true! I love to find beautiful colors in unordinary place! Do you do this too?? Then we share this LOVE of color! Yay! To share an experience, this one time, a dirty old garbage truck drove by, and all I could think and say out loud to my mom was, “Wow, that garbage truck is so beautiful!” My mom thought I was teasing and started out with a chuckle…until I protested and said that I really thought it was beautiful! Because I think for her, all she saw was a grubby old garbage truck. But for me, I saw the scattered turquoise paint chippings on the body of the chocolate and brown metal truck with flicks of lemon yellow “left over” paint.

The purpose for these Color Inspirations is that I like to think that I can see beautiful combinations of colors in ordinary objects, like a garbage truck, or an invitation on top of a place-setting in today’s Color Inspiration. And truly, the colors today are so wonderful, the olive, tan, and cream colors as a base and the tangerine orange as a splash of color. Splendid! Reasons Why I Love NYC: #053

Progressive dinners. I know you can do these types of things ANYWHERE, but this weekend was the first time I've ever done one! And it was AWESOME! I felt so ritzy and cool and like a New Yorker because I knew all these fantastic restaurants to eat at! Our first course, appetizers, was at this restaurant Cafe Habana (and I failed to get a photo of the deliciousness we partook of because I scarfed it down before I could! Woops!). We had grilled corn there!

You know how when you're RREALLY hungry, food tastes even better? Well, while I was here on a school trip with my graphic design major, we came to Cafe Habana on a cold, February, RAINY afternoon. And. We. Were. Hungry. Like, really hungry! We had been slushing through the rain all day, and my umbrella I bought started breaking within an hour (Note to self: never buy an umbrella from China-Town again.), and we were hungry! Like I said. SO, we stumbled upon Cafe Habana and had heard from previous students that their corn was amazing! But, it's corn, right? How amazing can corn be?? We only had to wait a few minutes, thankfully, in the rain until our table was cleared off and we were seated at our table. We smelled like wet dog. (You know the smell.) So we ordered our grilled corn and other food selections, and I splurged and bought the homemade limeade, which turned out to be worth the $3! So when this corn came, it looked delicious! But, again, it's only corn though, RIGHT? WRONGO BONGO!! Seriously, this corn was and still is in the top 5 foods (desserts don't count though, duh!) I've EVER had! This grilled corn is grilled to perfection-juiciness-warmness-et-cetera-ness, then brushed with butter, and covered with this amazing Mexican corn I still can't remember the name of, with chilli pepper to taste, and a quarter lime to squeeze on the top. I mean. So Good!! Please tell me that sounds good. PLEASE!

So after trudging through the rain, smelling like wet dog, gross, we got to sit down to delight in the most delicious thing I had my entire trip in New York! Thank you, universe, for sending Cafe Habana to me. Sincerely.

So part of me thought that the corn was going to taste so good because we were SO HUNGRY, and smelled....gross.... But when we went back this weekend for our Progressive Dinner Appetizer, it was JUST AS GOOD!! (Thank goodness! I didn't want our entire experience to be a fluke! So I LOVE it even more!)

Then we found a quaint cafe restaurant where we all got delicious pesto-turkey-avacado panini's! It was called Cafe Fiat! And for the first time ever, I got to try out this dessert, (our dessert for the evening) which was rice pudding! Rice To Riches. The environment alone was worth the experience! Check out our experience, and I'd love to hear any suggestions for the next progressive dinner we do!

Reasons Why I Love NYC: #052

The Guggenheim Museum. Wow, this stunning piece of architecture was a wonder hidden among the skyscrapers and central park. What an exciting breath of fresh, modern air! The pieces in the museum were really wonderful to look at, but the building itself was the most impressive thing. The only art piece that could have challenged the architecture of the building was a single room with the walls layered with 100,000 one dollar bills. That was pretty amazing! But like I said, the building itself was the best art piece there! As we got off the bus and walked to the museum, out of the blue it was like BAM! There it is!! The spiral curves, the flowing nature of the outside surface, it was absolutely amazing, that's all I can say! I was speechless at the sight of it! The interior was just as beautiful! The glass ceiling details and the large spiral walkway were both so delicately designed and seemed to look exactly as it was intended to look. To do that with any project is an accomplishment in and of itself, but I would go as far as to say that the design of this building was more than that, it was perfect.

Frank Lloyd Wright absolutely knew what he was doing with this building. Please let me know what you think of this building, as well!

Turtles in Central Park. Um, seriously?? While I was on my Saturday run...(okay, Saturday was more of a walk because I got a terrible side-ache right as I started! So....I basically just walked instead)...I found the baseball fields, this beautiful gazebo thing over the lake (someone help me out with the name??), and this turtle!! How cool is that?!

It's amazing how throughout the grimy city streets, there is a haven called Central Park where even turtles can come and dwell within it's boundaries! Thank you New York for Central Park! There is so much beauty there, don't be surprised if you have to read through a few more Central Park posts before I leave. I just love it! I can't help it!!

Babycakes. It's a vegan bakery! I went with some of my girlfriends this weekend and we had a great time! We had never tried vegan food before, so we thought we'd start off with foods made up solely of sugar, because then you can't go wrong!! And we were right! They were great! I tried a lemon cupcake, Arien tried their cornbread, Kate tried the carrot cake one, and Amber got the best one...chocolate mint! Yum! I will definitely go back to get the chocolate mint cupcake next time! They were really nice there and we had a great time!

The thing I liked the most about their cupcakes is that each cupcake was like an art! A quaint, beautiful, pastel piece of art. The frosting was molded just so to give it that delicate, "I'm delicious" look! I loved the little tuft of extra colored frosting on top, too! Makes me wanna do that for the next batch of cupcakes I make! Loved them! Love my girls! Love NYC!

In my humble opinion, yellow and navy are this summer’s colors! The yellow adds that beautiful, passionate PUNCH of color, and the navy keeps things cool, collected, and level-headed. In a way, the blend of having neutrals, yellow, and navy is a very professional color scheme! It’s mature and sophisticated, but the yellow makes sure it’s not bland and boring. Have I convinced you yet that it’s “this summer’s color”? I’d love to hear your opinion about this Color Inspiration in the comments section!

Cotton Candy and Red Balloons

remind me of my wedding! And...I've been extra sappy lately, obviously so if you read THIS POST, so I thought I would take the time to watch my wedding video (again). I couldn't help myself!!haha So I'm sure most of you have already seen this video before, but I'm sharing it with you again!

Last summer was a WHIRL! I loved all the stress, excitement and joy of planning my wedding last year! I can't believe Greg and I have almost already been married for a YEAR!! Isn't that AWESOME!!? I think so too, thanks! The best part about my wedding was that I had a the opportunity of planning and doing everything! I had this monstrous plan in my head of what I wanted the reception to look like with a "Vintage Carnival" theme, and slowly but surely, it all came together! I had a lot of help from my mom, sister-in-laws, Greg, and bridesmaids to make it a DIY wedding, and here's all that we did! We made pennants (we used the same fabric as my mom used to make a quilt for me!) to hang from the tent, windmills and signs to distinguish the various things to do, the mailbox, the wooden signs around the outside of my reception, the white tissue ball decorations, the bridesmaid pin-flowers, the vintage, painted picture frames, the "photo-op" wall, and I did all the flowers too!! (I have a little wedding flower business, although it's on hold while I'm in NY for the summer, ask me if you have any questions about flowers for a wedding once I get back!) I'm glad the stress of the wedding is long over, but I'm happy I went through all that planning so I ended up with MY version of a perfect wedding to share with my man!

May you be able to get your hands on a red balloon and some cotton candy this summer! Just think of me when you do, and take a bite of cotton candy for me!

Free Fonts

Yes it TRUE!! I've had people ask me before, where do you find your fonts?! Well here is an answer for you!

As a graphic designer, I love finding new fonts, especially if they're free and decent, too!! So I found this: Lost Type Co-Op! Its a website of designers who create fonts and put them up on this website! Then whoever wants to can "pay what you want" to download their fonts! In their own words, here is what Lost Type Co-Op says about their website:

Sorbet ice cream. That's how I would describe today's Color Inspiration! I just wanna eat it right up! Fruity peach, soft, cold ice cream on my tongue during a humid (again..) NYC day! Ah! I might go get some sorbet ice cream tonight, in fact! I love the gentle tones and the soothing relaxation that happens to me when I see this color scheme! I think it would be fantastic colors for an elegant, graceful wedding, too! Please tell me someone uses these colors for their wedding!! It would make me so so happy!!

Greg and I are....

2,189 miles apart. That’s seriously how far away my Greg and I are! It actually doesn’t seem that far when you hear the number of miles, but is IS! I might get sappy and annoying when I talk about Greg, but it’s because I miss him, okay?! Maybe I’ll drive to see him soon!...except I don’t have a car, there are only crazy yellow cabs here! I know someone who took a cab from Boston to NY, and it was only $4000! …So obviously a cab will NOT work either to go to Utah to visit him! So he is coming here to NY! (On a plane!) He comes not this weekend, or the next, but the weekend after that!! Essentially, 2 WEEKS from TOMORROW!! So I’m waaay way excited! I knew that being separated from my husband for the summer was going to be hard, but it has far exceeded my expectations. I’m great as far as getting around the city goes, I’m safe, I know where to buy my groceries and I carry them home all by myself! But I’m lonely without my Greg! We skype, text, send pics, facebook, ichat, and talk all the time, but it’s just not the same! I still can’t believe that this is our first summer together after being married and it is spent apart! We are going to miss our first anniversary, too! SAD!!! (August thirteenth, mark your calendars!) I know this is where I’m supposed to be and that Utah is where he is supposed to be, but I’ll be happy to be back in his arms though with this nice scratchy beard he’s growing right now!

The Color Inspiration for today is a tropical explosion! The type of flowers are screaming tropical paradise as well as the color scheme! I have some chopstick that is called Tropical Paradise, and that smell is exactly what this color scheme looks like! It is fruity, and humid, yet fresh like oranges and limes. Union Square Farmer's Green Market. I was waiting for a friend at Union Square this last weekend on our way to the BEACH. (Sidenote: I seriously CANNOT get enough of the beach! And I had NO CLUE that there are even beaches at New York! At least, good enough beaches to be an actual BEACH, ya know what I mean? This beach is huge, too! So so great, and it's fulfilling my beach cravings!) As I was at the Union Square Park stop, I decided to wait outside of the subway so I'd have service and to my surprise, there was the Farmer's Green Market going on! I had no clue! But I guess this is a regular occasion! Sweet! So I had a delightful time walking around seeing all of the vendors there! There were cute, speckled fresh eggs, TONS of flowers, fresh meat, fresh strawberries and carrots and onions (which all look really beautiful in the photos I captured below!)

All I know is that if I would have had cash on me, there was a LOT I would have bought! And it may or may not have been a few bushels of strawberries. I swear, I was still a few feet away when the strong aroma of sweet strawberries was wisping through the air! Such a sweet, ripe, delicious smell! I wanna go back and get some even if it's expensive, they look like they're plucked straight from the garden! And I grew strawberries at my parents house one year while I was younger (I really was the only one in my family who, roughly, kept up with gardening and I still miss it to this day!) and those strawberries were small, but packed with flavor and the reddest red! Yeah, well these strawberries at the Farmer's Green Market were like that! Ok, enough raving, and time for some pics!

Color Inspiration #043

Today's Color Inspiration reminds me of the beach at San Francisco. Not in the summertime, but early spring when it's still cool enough you need to wear pants and a light jacket even though you have sand in your toes. It reminds me of the deep blue shades of blue of the ocean bumping up against the pier, and the smell of seaweed and fish at the market. Maybe I need to go to San Francisco again because that description made me miss it! I'd love to run barefoot in the sand looking out into the deep blue water. Doesn't that sound relaxing?
