Pre Order: Roses On My Table

"I'd rather have
roses
on my table than
diamonds
on my neck"

I'm designing some quotes to put in my new store (once my new website is up) and this is the first of the new batch of posters!

Beauty: How Lip Gloss is like a Font

Okay, feeling slightly out of my element, but am mustering up the courage to be true to THIS post. In short, on my blog, I'm trying to help connect my graphic design mind to topics that are more relatable to those who read my blog. Stay with me, I promise it will make sense how to connect graphic design topic to a beauty post.

As a designer, I have a large collection of typefaces (fonts), so many different styles and they all have great uses to create certain looks. But just like many designers I know, I tend to fall in and out of obsession with one typeface at a time. You see, once I realize how wonderful it is, I tend to favorite said typeface and use it whenever I can, because I'm comfortable with it, I know how it works, and I know it will make my work look better.

Lipgloss is just like that. No really, it is!

As a woman, I have a large collection of lip gloss, so many different shades and they all have great uses to create certain looks. But somehow, I tend to fall in and out of obsession with one lipgloss at a time, I imagine other women are like this too! It's because once I realize how wonderful the lipgloss is, I tend to favorite it and use it whenever I can, because I'm comfortable with it, I know how it works, and I know it will improve my appearance!

Lipgloss is the bomb, especially the one I'm wearing in these posts, you HAVE to try it out!!!

...and yes, my husband is a bada$$...

But really, though, this lipgloss is so amazing! It is so so shiny, and stays put, and looks amazing! You'd never guess it, but the color I have on has a slight purple-ness to it. It's the color "Pout" (which is not the color pictured below) take a look!

Gold Leaf Business Cards

I absolutely adore these business cards I recently finished. It was one of those projects that started quickly, and then once it got to the printer it ended up being more complicated than expected. Note to self, gold leaf is gorgeous, but tedious to perfect! But if you can push through the endless rounds of proofs, then it's all worth it in the end. I mean, come on. Aren't these gorgeous? Shelby Margaret was such an incredible client, thank you so much for your patience and easy-going-ness. You were a dream to work with! And now you have gorgeous cards! Woohoo! And might I add, that if you need some photography, you should use this girl! Shelby Margaret also does something she calls surreal photography, and it is so mind-blowing, I've included a few of my favorites below. Stunning, simply stunning.

Business cards are the perfect way to leave an impression, and if you don't have any yet, you need to get some! If you'd like me to design your own business cards, send an inquiry with an email at alexibullock dot gmail dot com so I can design some for you, too!

Interiors: American Flag Pride

Have you read any of my recent posts? They talk about not being afraid, new changes coming to this blog, and that I'm shifting my blog to be about designing other parts of my life, not just graphic design. That will give you a little background if you're new or haven't been in awhile. This is a continuation of those posts, so take a lookie!

How do I take my thought process of creating a graphic design piece to designing my home? How does that even make sense? Well, think of it this way. Part of being a designer, is making conscious decisions to improve the overall aesthetics and purpose of a project. So when it comes to my home, instead of buying something for my home just because it's there, or maybe because it's on sale, then slapping it into the corner of my home I want to be more involved in the what, why and how when it comes to designing my home. What do I want my home to look like and portray? Why? What is the overall vision for my home? Does this specific piece add or take away from my overall goal? This type of thinking is what I do for graphic design projects, and it works quite easily for anything and everything.

One thing you have to take into consideration as a designer are trends. Yes, yes, there are some designs that are timeless, and that's a noble goal for many things I design. But not everything has to be timeless, some of it can be trendy, if it's trendy for a purpose.

Like...have you seen this trend lately? [Insert a the "Star-Spangled Banner"]

I know, I know...it's after the patriotic month of July. But who says you can't be patriotic all year long? Right? That's what we think, too. Thus, I found a flag a month ago, mended the ragged edge, hung it up on the widest un-used wall in our home, and have left it up for over 6 weeks now! What do you think?

Needless to say, I'm in love!! I'll probably take it down for the holidays, though, or unless enough of you think it's awful! Tell me what you think!!

Start to be Great

I've done a lot of thinking lately and although I think that graphic design is fascinating and I'm so passionate about it, I also realize that not everyone is interested in graphic design the way I am. That's why I'm going to start incorporating posts about how design can effect other parts of a person's life, as well. I want to tie in the conscious thinking I do with graphic design projects to all parts of my life. Truth be told, it's what I already do, I really do design my whole life, each small piece of it. Now, I'm finally going to be sharing that with all of you! Today's earlier post is the start of showing how I design other parts of my life, specifically my style. And later this week, you'll see more posts about designing other parts of my life, like designing my home, designing beauty, designing food, designing vacations and designing life! And of course, I will still post about graphic design, not sure if it's possible for me not to! Can't wait to show you what my new blog looks like! It will probably be a little haphazard in the beginning, but I'm swallowing my fears and just doing it! I just have to start and not worry about what it looks like for now, but just start! Hopefully the few of you who read my blog will like it!

Styled Floral Blazer with Boyfriend Jeans

Monumental day, peeps, very shortly, I have some big changes coming to the overall look of my blog! I know, this will effect the very purpose of your life as you know it (insert sarcasm), but until that change comes, I'm going to start altering the content of my blog posts to be better aligned with the new purpose of my blog.

And what changes are those? Well for one, it's officially my second style post! Woohoo! I'm swallowing my fears about not being a fashion designer (read my initial thoughts here) and just posting! I'm swallowing my fears when it comes to fashion posts and not being qualified for such posts, but in general, I'm swallowing my fears about what this blog is morphing into, as well. Read today's latter post if you're curious what is coming!!

Back to today's style post!

GOAL: Find an outfit to wear on the plane that accomplishes 3 important things:
1. Comfort,
2. Stylish enough for a business trip,
3. Warmth (I'm always cold on planes).

This outfit is the perfect answer for a few reasons. Most importantly, it was comfortable. Comfort is huge in my book because you're uncomfortable enough sitting next to strangers and breathing stale air, so I do whatever I can do to feel as comfortable as possible. The easy answer is to wear sweats and slippers. But, I was on a business trip with coworkers, so I had to appear professional. So instead of sweatpants, I wore boyfriend jeans, which are on the casual side, but a lot better than sweats. And to dress up the jeans, I chose a floral blazer, which I wore instead of my normal plane attire of a sweatshirt. And the pieces that tied the two together was a nice, flow-y tee shirt with a statement necklace. Lastly, the shoes. Normally I would wear a cute pair of heels with this outfit to make it more sexy, but I really hate walking through security in bare feet. So I opted for comfortable white tennis shoes, instead.

I'm still learning how to style boyfriend jeans, but I think I'm doing an okay job for my first whack at it? Right? I'll probably try again next week, because I've seen some really cute outfits on pinterest lately. Take a look at this week's outfit and tell me what you think!

Check out some suggested pieces below, and I won't tell you which ones, but two of the jackets are actually on sale right now! Bonus!

Bridal Shower Invitations

I had the privilege of designing bridal shower invites for the NEWEST member of the Bullock family! Can I just take a moment to say how much I love her?! She has only officially been a new sister-in-law for 48 hours, but boy, she is so fantastic. I can't wait to get to know her more. So hurry up and get back from your honeymoon, Heather, let's play now that the stress of your wedding is over!!! Anyway, here's what I created, hope you enjoy!
