Grilled Cheese Sandwich Bar

Need some ideas for the SUPER BOWL in a few weeks?? This is your answer.

Most food at a Super Bowl party consists of chilli cheese dip, chips, and soda (so nutritious...not). Well, adding a Grilled Cheese Sandwich Bar to the junk food mix will give you some actual substance and will still be easy food to eat in front of the couch. Am I right?
Just put out your favorite ingredients (on cute platters and in mason jars, of course), add some labels, plug in a griddle, and let your guests mix and match to their hearts' desire.

My food items included: bread (white & wheat), spreads (sun-dried tomatoes, mayo, & pesto), cheese (mozzarella, colby jack & provolone), meat (canadian bacon, bacon, salame), extras (pickles, mashed avocados & tomatoes) and a side (pita chips with roasted red pepper hummus). Ah! Isn't your mouth just watering right now, picturing yourself take an ooey-gooey-grilled cheese bite?
Enjoy!

Freedom & Happiness

Photo via.

I've thought a lot about this phrase today because I am so grateful for what I do. Graphic design is my passion and it brings me more happiness than I ever thought it could. When you're passionate and excited about something you enjoy doing, your happiness level just skyrockets. Ya know? I'm also so grateful for the recent freelance projects that have landed in my lap. I love branding and doing other design projects on the side, it's what I live for these days. Anyway, I thought I would share this simple quote with you along with some happy links that I hope will bring you a little more freedom & happiness today.

DIY Chalkboard Paint

Psst...don't forget about your New Year's Resolutions; see mine HERE. I don't wanna forget about my resolutions either, so I've created a chalkboard clipboard to write my weekly goals on. Bonus points for the clipboard chalkboard: I can easily change my goals each week AND the clipboard easily hangs by my bed or in my office. Chalkboard paint is super easy to use, you can BUY  it or MAKE it:

Mix together 1/2 cup acrylic paint (any color) and 1 tablespoon unsanded DRY grout (you can get it at Home Depot) until there are no lumps. Paint 2 coats onto your chosen surface, then let dry. When dry, you need to slate the chalkboard by rubbing a piece of chalk along the entire surface, then wipe clean. That's it! Easy, huh? Try it out!

Nike 10K Run

Image via.

Will you do this with me??

It's a 10K run, not necessarily a race, because there is no set course! Anyone around the world can run the NWM 10K, and all you have to do is track your run with your Nike+ app, then sync your run after you've completed the 10K! The run is $40 and includes a NWM 10K finisher tshirt, and the money goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. NWM 10K will give $10 of every registration back to LLS. Visit their FAQ page if you have more questions about the run.

Running in my first marathon is one of my New Year's Resolutions, but I'm a little scared to run in my first official "race" because of being surrounded by professional marathoners, (until they leave me in the dust in the first 30 seconds)! So this, the NWM 10K run, is the perfect way to get rid of my race jitters because it's on my own, and then it's also for a good cause.

Who will do this with me?

Almost Emergency Work Kit

It is THE WORST when you're at work without an item that you really need but don't have. It's not what you would call a REAL emergency, just an "almost emergency" because you have a terrible headache at the beginning of the day. Or maybe you have food stuck in your teeth and have an upcoming important meeting with your boss (so embarrassing). I may or may not have had these happen to me, so I made myself a little kit to take to work. I wanted to share it with you in case you've run into any 'almost emergencies' yourself.

For your printable Almost Emergency Starter Kit:

  1. Find a box (mine is a cute wooden box that used to hold caramels, thanks mom!)
  2. Click on the images below to enlarge them,
  3. Then print them out, and
  4. Fill your box with "almost emergency" things you might need at work.
  5. Check them off as you add them to the box so you don't forget anything!

DIY Paper Globe

I've been drooling over THIS globe ever since I saw it on A Merry Mishap, so I finally decided to make my own. And I have to say, that I was quite pleased with how it turned out! What do you think?

You can print your own from THIS SITE. Once you pick your colors and download the .pdf, just panel the pages when you print your globe to make it bigger. My globe above was printed on 4 sheets of 11"x17" paper and I think it is the perfect size, naturally.

3 Refreshing Flavored Lemonade Recipes

We had a mini flavored lemonade tasting party last night as I made these and I have to say, they were a huge hit! The next time you are asked to bring a drink to a party, make these! You'll be happy you did, promise.

Strawberry & Basil Lemonade
To a large pitcher or lemonade, add 1/2 to a full thinly sliced lemon, 2 to 3 cups of fresh chopped strawberries or sliced frozen strawberries and a handful of chopped basil. The longer the lemonade sits, the more the basil flavor will infuse with the drink.

Cucumber & Mint Limeade
To a large pitcher of limeade, add 1/4 to 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced, a 1/2 to full thinly sliced lime, and a handful of chopped mint leaves. The mint, much like the Strawberry Basil Lemonade, will infuse with the drink the longer the drink sits.

Blackberry Lemonade
To a small pitcher of lemonade, add 1/2 to a full thinly sliced lemon & add 1 cup of slightly mashed fresh blackberries, or frozen blackberries. The more the blackberries are smashed, the more the color will infuse into the lemonade.

Enjoy!

NOTE: the strawberry and blackberry flavored lemonades tasted even BETTER the next day, the cucumber one tasted best right after I made it. So serve the cucumber one immediately after making it, and make the strawberry and blackberry ones the day before.

Stunning Tahiti Scenery

Please promise me you will go to Tahiti before you die. I am not exaggerating when I say this, but it was the most beautiful and amazing vacation I have ever been on and probably ever will be. It's hard to fully explain why, but I think it had something to do with the remoteness of it. Hangin' out in the jungle and swinging on Tarzan vines was pretty amazing. Driving around on bumpy dirt roads, dodging wild roosters and hiking waterfalls in the prettiest place on earth could never get old. The weather was absolutely perfect, 85 and sunny every day and 78 every night. Even on the only 1/2 day that it rained, it was still one of the coolest experiences running around in the warm jungle raindrops and driving to the top of the island in a tropical downpour. The water in Moorea, the island right next to Tahiti, had stunning turquoise water where we snorkeled in coral reefs and hung out with dozens of sharks and stingrays that were mere inches from us (we pet all the stingrays and the smallest one was still 3 feet wide)! All of this is "normal" when you're in French Polynesia, no biggie! I could talk for days about this vacation, but you'll just have to go and find out for yourself!!

Feeling a bit obsessed with Heidi Merrick, I just discovered these beauties. Who will loan me money to buy a new swanky LBD (little black dress), you know, just because.

My Official New Year's Resolutions

I must confess, I'm not normally one to get sucked into this whole New Year's Resolutions thing. I think the fact that people make resolutions, keep them for a week or two, and then forget they ever made them and are back to their old habits kind of put me off...but this year, it somehow felt different. Voila!

Color Inspiration #102

In honor of our Tahiti trip we just got back from, today's Color Inspiration is dedicated to surfing. Some of the largest surfing competitions happen there at Teahupoo. I wish we could have seen a competition! Enjoy today's Color Inspiration, and let it be known that blogging is one of my New Years Resolutions (which I will share all of my resolutions soon)!

Hope you all had a lovely holiday this season! We certainly did! Tahiti was GLORIOUS!! Best vacation I've EVER had. I would love to post photos from our trip!! But I've also been considering posting personal photos, such as that trip, on a different blog, like a family blog. Opinions? I'm just not sure what to do!!

But for now, here is our holiday video! You've already seen it if you got my Christmas card, sorry for the repeat. I hope you enjoy it and I truly do hope that you find lots of extra love wherever you go this next year.
