Color Inspiration #101

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving! I did! My baby sister got married and it was a GORGEOUS wedding and perfect day. Seriously, so wonderful. Unfortunately, I got crazy sick this week, so I've been a bit MIA because of the holiday, the wedding, and my sickness, but now that my flu is gone, I'm back to blogging! I apologize! Anyway, enjoy today's Color Inspiration! (Number 101, can you believe it?)

Design Lately

Graphic design is a huge part of my life. I think about typography all day, I constantly critique advertisements in my head, I think of ways commercials can be improved, I design the food I eat, and I find beauty in simple things.

Here are a few things that I'm actually designing these days, new branding for a photographer friend of mine, wedding flowers for my freshman roommate, and some tags for a friend's, friend's baby shower (NO, NOT MY SHOWER.)

One of Martha Stewart's Beauty Secrets #4

It's here already, the 4th post about Martha Stewart's Beauty Secrets! The last beauty secret will be posted next Wednesday, so come back for that!! If you missed out on #1, #2, #3 make sure to go check them out! If Martha Stewart is 71 years old and looking so fantastic, then it's definitely worth it to be doing what she does! I wanna look THIS GOOD when I'm 71 for sure!

This shouldn't come as a surprise, but the 4th secret to Martha Stewart looking so good is skin care. Her daily routine includes a thorough cleansing every morning and every night. She uses tones, enriching day and night creams, and serums to keep her skin elastic and glowing. Sunblocks, balms and skin healers are also necessary as preventive treatments. And once you have taken care of cleansing and protecting your skin, the next important thing is how to best apply your makeup with THESE 7 TIPS.

She seriously does look SO GOOD. I was absolutely surprised when I saw her in person! And let's not lie here, Martha Stewart gets Photoshop-ed (along with every single person who is ever in any magazine). But do you want to know another secret that I witnessed when I was interning there this summer??  I learned that they don't even Photoshop her that much! It's not really taking away the wrinkles with Photoshop as much as it is adding "glow" to her face with Photoshop. Do you hear this people? A 71-year old woman hardly has wrinkles and they add some extra spice of life to her instead! Truly awesome. 

And one more thing to add, has she had plastic surgery? No one really knows. I have seen her in person and it just looks like she gets facials and peels often. At most, maybe she's had some injectables, which technically isn't plastic surgery. But a quote from a plastic surgeon. Dr. Edward Jonas Domanskis, who practices in Newport Beach and is an assistant clinical professor at University of California, comments and guesses about plastic surgery on Martha Stewart:
“Yes, Martha has been Photoshopped but she looks very good in person also. She is a beautiful woman. She does not appear to have had much, if any, plastic surgery. . . She shows that one doesn’t need plastic surgery to be attractive at her age!” Source

And that's one thing that I appreciate about Martha Stewart, she takes care of herself, she is not perfect, but shows that you don't need plastic surgery to be attractive at her age.

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

Bad news over here. I'm only 24 years old and I have high cholesterol. Wait what? (I's crazy!) I made an apt with the doctor but he can't see me for another month!! So in the meantime, I'm going to take matters into my own hands and eat healthier foods (I thought I was doing this already, but I guess I need to be even MORE healthy).

Thus, homemade chewy granola bars! Oats help lower cholesterol, and I don't really like oatmeal, so I'm trying out these bars instead! I'm currently eating one and I gotta say, they are pretty dang good!! The best thing is that you can CUSTOMIZE them to you taste preferences! Add in whatever sounds good to YOU in granola bars, and then try a new combo the next time you make them!

Recipe below was altered from THIS RECIPE


  • 2 cups quick rolled oats
  • 1/3 to 3/4 cup granulated sugar (I use 1/3; use more if you like things sweeter)
  • 1/4 cup flour 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup dried fruits (choose whatever variety you want, I did raisins!)
  • 1 cup nuts (choose whatever variety you want, I did almonds, pecans, and sunflower seeds)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (I left these out, but I think I'll add them in next time)
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter or another nut butter 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup 
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil, such as canola
  • 2 tablespoons water

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. 
  2. Line a 9x13" pan with parchment paper (I don’t even bother to grease it). Set aside.
  3. Stir together all dry ingredients.
  4. Separately, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine the nut butter, melted butter, honey or maple syrup, oil and water and microwave for about 1 minute and stir halfway through.
  5. Pour liquid mixture over dry ingredients and stir to thoroughly combine. 
  6. Transfer the mixture to the baking pan, using the back of a spoon (or your hands) to firmly press the mixture into the pan.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown. 
  8. Let cool completely in the pan.
  9. Use the parchment paper as handles to lift the baked mixture out of the pan, then slice into bars with a sharp knife.  (If the mixture seems too crumbly, try chilling in the fridge for 20 minutes or so.)
  10. Wrap them in saran wrap for individual use.
  11. Store the bars stacked in an airtight container, preferably in the fridge. They also freeze well.

One of Martha Stewart's Beauty Secrets #3

I'm totally late on this one, so sorry! But today I bring you the 3rd post of Martha Stewart's Beauty Secrets! Go check out #1 and #2 if you missed out! I have 5 total secrets that are (supposed) to be posted on Wednesdays, and here's goes number three!

This one shouldn't surprise you, but one of Martha Stewart's Beauty Secrets is to exercise! And she does it almost everyday! She has a personal trainer that comes to her house, which helps to force her to work out. I really like the concept of this, because if you can find a way that you are "forced" to workout, that will help! Working out with friends, or immediately after an activity (like a day at work) will help you to exercise on those days when you really don't feel like it. At home, Martha Stewart has aerobic machines, weights and Cybex machines, and has a lovely view of the farm, a television so she can watch the news while running on the treadmill, and yoga equipment. The importance of aerobic exercise cannot be overemphasized. Aerobics keep weight down and stamina up. 

Martha Stewart says, "Weights are all-important for bone health and body toning, and yoga is essential for calming the mind and strengthening the body’s core. I love weights for arms and shoulders, and my Pilates ring for strengthening thighs, arms and chest. A yoga block, a ring and a yoga strap come with me wherever I go, so I can at least get a bit of a workout when I’m not at home."

And even if you don't have the luxury of taking an hour out of your day to workout, remember that walking is another good way to keep your heartbeat up and to stay healthy. Take the stairs, park far away in the parking lot, and take a walk during a lunchbreak. 

Remember, Martha Stewart is 71 and not only looks fantastic but is in good health! So I will take her advice to the grave with me so I can look THIS GOOD when I'm 71, too!

DIY: Homemade Donuts

If you're on Pinterest, I'm sure you've seen THIS PIN floating around on how to make your own donuts. The pin said they're really easy, so I thought I'd take it to the test and make them myself. Well, they totally worked!! It was truly very easy and tasted SO DELICIOUS!!! And you know those mini donuts at the fair that are covered in cinnamon/sugar? Well THAT'S what we did! Instead of making a glaze, which would be totally easy, too, we just did cinnamon/sugar and they were so so wonderful! If you want an easy treat, I dare you to try these and NOT like them. (I will just tell you right now, that will be impossible...)


1. Cut circles out of your Pilsbury Grands Homestyle Buttermilk dough. I used a small bottle. 
2. Heat vegetable oil over medium heat, then place your donuts inside. 
3. Flip when they are golden brown. 
4. When both sides are golden brown, let the oil drip from the donuts for a little, and then place directly into the cinnamon/sugar mixture.  
5. Cover with the mixture thoroughly. 
6. Eat your donuts while they're hot!

After Halloween is November?

Hope you had a Happy Halloween yesterday! We certainly did! We went horseback riding and it was a complete and utter blast. I would do it again today if I could! The weather was perfect and the company was even better. Thanks Mr. Bullock for getting into character with a cowboy hat and boots!! I'm so glad you could be there as well as my sister and her husband. Love you guys!

And happy November! Can you believe it's already here? Crazy! 2013 will be here sooner than we know it!! 

It could not have been more perfect weather for Halloween, wouldn't you agree?

So happy in this moment. There's something about being on a horse that makes you feel more in tune with yourself. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Please tell me there is!
